The Shangri-La Diner

The front of their menu states, "If you like us, we'd appreciate it if you tell your friends.". So I'm doing just that. In the heart of the antique district along Cherokee St., this Benton Park "diner" is billed as a little piece of paradise. Indeed. This groovy little place serves up eclectic comfort food in the style of owner, chief cook and bottle washer, Patrice Mari's personal fav's. The food is mainly vegetarian, with a few dishes that include Alaskan salmon. We had the soft fish tacos which were fabulous, and a Jamaican ginger beer was a perfect accompaniment. Their hours are Thurs-Sat, 10am-5pm, and their award winning brunch is Sunday from 10am-2pm. That's next on our radar. I can't wait to try their Creme Brulee French Toast! Check out the eye candy below, this place is extremely photogenic. The rest of my photos of The Shangri-La Diner can be found here

Java Joe's

A new coffeshop has opened in Dutchtown, more specifically at the corner of Virginia and Meramac. It's called Java Joe's and in addition to the coffee, they serve hot and cold sandwiches as well as some baked goods. I recommend the wonderfully spicy Joe's Blend. Their hours are Mon-Sat 7am-6pm and Sun 8am-5pm. Check 'em out!

Virginia Mansion

Since Autumn weather finally came our way this weekend, I decided to take advantage of it and go for a stroll through my neighborhood. One of my stops was the Virginia Mansion. Thanks to Steve Patterson and others this building will be preserved for future use. Here are a few pictures.

World's Fair Donuts

Named for their address, 1904 Vandeventer, World's Fair Donuts is an old school donut shop, unlike the Krispy factory chains. Taste the difference below.
