Last parish picnic? Are they closing the parish? Or just not doing the picnic anymore? I used to live in that parish, and remember the annual picnic fondly.

Hmmmmmm...."Blue Dragons"... Is that a reference to St. Mary's High School? As a Bishop DuBourg alum I suppose I should view those dragons with a bit of suspicion.... :-)

Thanks for the kind remarks! For those of you who aren't aware, Resurrection Of Our Lord parish will be closing the doors of its church and school on July 1st, as ordered by our short-sighted Arch-Bishop Raymond Burke. The parish is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and the parade that kicked off the picnic was a bittersweet affair. It was preceded with a nice rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by 15th ward Alderwoman Jennifer Florida and a stirring version of TAPS by 20th ward Alderman Craig Scmid. It is entirely possible that the Blue Dragons made their way from St. Mary's as it is only a few blocks away ;)

wait, am I to understand that Ald. Florida *sang* The Star-Spangled Banner? And how was Taps rendered? Is there an aldermanic talent show being organized?

Taps was rendered melodic and mournful ... or something like that. I've got a 30 second clip of each performance that we could use for auditions if anyone wants to take Amanda up on the talent show thing.

Or maybe, instead of a talent show, we could do a St. Louis elected officials version of American Idol. We could vote on who stays and who goes based on talent instead of politics.
